A swivel should be placed near the top end of the catenary riser, about 130 ft (40 m) from the coupling head, in order to eliminate torsional stresses in the catenary riser.

The riser swivel should be lubricated by an integral lubricating system consisting of a positive displacement pump.

  • The pump should be driven by the oscillatory motions of the swivel.
  • The lubrication system should be maintenance free.
