Do I need ISO drawings in order to do PSV calculation in HYSIS and iPRISM?

A client was asking to perform PSV study, but not providing iso drawings for the facility that they want to conduct the PSV sizing and its functionality.

So the question is do I need iso drawings in order to do PSV calculation in HYSIS and iPRISM?

Yes, you need iso drawings to get details information such as tag of valve, how long the pipe length is, how many elbow, etc. in order to run Hysis ans iPrism.

Yes, the ISO should be needed to generate model and in order to get accurate information for PSV sizing and blowdown calculation.

There are few options that can be done but of course they will cost time and material (money). Here are some options to consider:

  • Option 1 (lowest cost): Walkdown the facility and do hand sketches of the PSV inlet piping and flare network; this should be sufficient to perform PSV sizing and back pressure check including blowdown.
  • Option 2: Same as option 1, but then generate the ISO based on the hand sketches. This option add a bit more time and manhours to generate the ISO, but the project will have ISO for the record if needed in the future.
  • Option 3 (highest cost out of 3): Perform the Laser Scan of facility's full gas lines and flare network. This option will generate the following and a model for the project to work with in the future:
    • Import line/export line/Gas Compressor LP/Gas compressor HP/Oil System/flare HP/Flare LP
    • Interpretation into 3D model and ISOs export
