Fire on the offshore platform with drilling risers attached

asked Feb 6, 2016 in Offshore-Upstream by Brysen Lin (515 points)
What is/are the recommended procedure(s) to take when drilling riser cannot be disconnected and fire continues at the surface?

Riser inaccessible due to presence of other risers and debris or design layout.

It is not my expertise to offer an answer, but one thing for sure is the extensive clearing operations is going to be a must if this (God forbid) ever happens.

Make sure cutting tools are available to cut the inner riser in the event that the riser must be disconnected to improve surface conditions.

Another possibility is to ensure ROV override available on the subsea connector.
