The subsea choke (retrievable choke insert and choke body) is the primary flow control valve in the subsea system.

The choke functions as a flow/pressure control wear element when bringing on and shutting in a subsea well, thus taking the pressure differential across the choke as opposed to the tree or manifold gate valves.
