Baseplate recommendation for sump pump?

asked Nov 3, 2018 in Mechanical by Ryan Bidong (150 points)

I have a project to install a new sump for storm water control, and plan to use horizontal self-priming centrifugal pumps. These would sit on steel beams spanning the sump. A supplier quotes using stilt-mount base plates. Would bolting the base to the steel be a better choice?

Thanks in advance!

Is there a reason for not locating the pump on solid ground next to the sump?

There are two considerations come to mind when you bolt the base plate to the steel beam:

  • Vibration/structural resonance of putting the pump on the beams
  • Maintenance access would prove difficult for the facility maintenance team
