By the end of 2013, the offshore industry experienced the record drilling units in excess of 10,000 feet of deepwater.

  • Deepest Dynamic Positioning Drilling is 10,411 ft, Offshore India, Transocean's Dhirubhai, ONGC Operating
  • Deepest Subsea Tree: 9,627 ft, Gulf of Mexico, Shell Operating
  • Deepest Floating Facility (BW Pioneer FPSO): 8,200 ft, Gulf of Mexico, Petrobras Operating

I would also like to mention that the drilling units in the ultra-deep water will experience harsh environment conditions like temperature and pressure.

The deeper the drilling exploration goes, the greater the efforts that drilling tools manufacturers have to explore and design to meet the requirements in downhole equipment like sealing, logging, gauges, etc.
