Trim ballast: The (minimum) amount of water ballast needed to balance the eccentricity of the total TLP weight and loads in order to achieve the acceptable tendon tension.

Reserve ballast: The amount of water ballast in addition to the trim ballast needed to maintain the TLP at the design draft and tendon pretension.

Total ballast: The sum of trim ballast and reserve ballast.
