Industry Contractor usually does not include firewalls or barriers to separate hazardous from non-hazardous areas. Past experience regarding Fire Risk Assessments have not required such passive fire protection.
In addition, the requirement for such barriers would increase safety risk as it would limit movement within the facility and potentially restrict access to escape routes.
The mechanical handling philosophy depends on the ability to freely access various areas of the FPSO. The addition of firewalls/barriers would limit or restrict access of mechanical handling equipment and would have a negative effect on mechanical handling for maintenance purposes.
The requirement will have a cost impact (increase) as well as a negative affect on operability.
