All insulation materials, insulation covering, cements, sealers, and accessories should be asbestos free. There are several types of Insulation Materials:
- Cellular Glass: Cellular glass is a lightweight, rigid insulating material that is ideal for piping and equipment above ground as well as below ground. Cellular glass preformed pipe sections, curved segments, or flat block should be suitable for temperature −450°F to +900°F per ASTM C 552.
- Expanded Perlite: Expanded Perlite is a inorganic and non-combustible material that is ideal for high temperature piping and equipment. Expanded Perlite preformed pipe sections, curved segments, or flat block should be suitable for temperature 100°F to 1200°F per ASTM C 610.
- Mineral Wool: Mineral wool is a non-combustible product with a water repellent and vapor permeable material that is ideal for steam and process pipe systems. Mineral wool preformed pipe sections should be suitable for temperature 100°F to 1200°F per ASTM C 547; Mineral wool board insulation per ASTM C 612, Type IV A, IV B or V. Mineral wool is typically used for noise control applications.
- Aerogels: (Pyrogel, Cryogel, Spaceloft): A low density and low thermal conductivity insulation material that should be suitable for hot temperatures up to 1200°F, and cold applicable below 140°F.
