Do non-pressure / non-hydrocarbon containing parts (316L SS) on Gas Turbines need to be painted?

There would be no significant consequences if chloride stress corrosion cracking occurs.

It is not the rule or requirement from any class society, but many operators in the offshore environment prefer to paint the following items even though they are non-pressure / non-hydrocarbon containing parts.

  • Acoustic Enclosure
  • Enclosure Ventilation: Inlet Filter Housing, Inlet and Outlet Silencers
  • All Necessary Ductwork
  • Combustion Air Inlet: Inlet Air System
