What are the issues with two reciprocating pumps in series? Can anyone provide any references?

I have never seen two recip pumps in a row.

That seems like not a good idea for and hydrocarbon or near-vapor pressure fluid. The surge and pulsation at the discharge of the first pump could cause cavitation at the suction of the second pump. If they insist, I would definitely use as much pulsation dampening, or snubbing as possible between the stages.

Thanks for the input Dave.

Thanks for the information Dave!

I am thinking of similar way forward, by adding a volume bottle between the two reciprocating pumps.
